Teens face many challenges in today’s world, and some of these can lead to substance abuse. Families need a full understanding of these challenges in order to help their teens deal with the tests life can offer.
At Rosecrance, we provide a range of family support services to help your family take an active role in your teen’s recovery. These services include counseling, support, education, and information. With our help, your entire family can learn about the disease of addiction and discover ways they can work together to help your teen achieve lasting recovery.
Families get support at Rosecrance for Recovery
Families need to know that they are not alone as teens recover from the disease of addiction. Our staff can arrange to have your family talk with other families who are going through similar experiences. You can learn what has worked for others and develop a strategy that makes sense for you. Family support groups are held one hour before visiting times.
Arranging family visits
Family members can take part in regular visiting hours throughout the week. Visits are scheduled by treatment group.
Weekly family sessions
Teenage clients and their family members come together weekly with their counselor to talk about goals and to learn more about navigating behavioral health challenges, including education around mental health and substance use. These sessions are scheduled individually for each patient.
Family relapse prevention plan
Each family needs to plan ways to keep their teen from experiencing a relapse. During family sessions, your Rosecrance counselor will work with you to develop a plan that will take you from the start of addiction treatment through discharge. This prevention plan will help your family support and maintain lasting recovery — for both the client and the family.
Treatment discharge planning
Planning for discharge is very important. This service helps patients and families connect to social, educational and recovery services in the community.

Find new reasons for hope with Rosecrance teen recovery services
The teenage years are never easy. Adolescence is a time of complex emotional change, for teenagers and for the family.
The teenage brain is wired to test boundaries. During these years, young people experience dramatic brain development that can make them more vulnerable to substance abuse or bring mental health issues into a more pronounced state. Whether these changes are sudden or gradual, it’s scary to watch the child you know fade away. We’re here to help.
Rosecrance is a national leader in adolescent behavioral health. We’ve been caring for the unique needs of teens and young adults for more than 100 years. Our comprehensive substance abuse and mental health services help accelerate progress and create a recovery roadmap that goes beyond initial treatment in recovery, because that’s the key to long-term success in recovery.

The physical environment plays an essential role in the treatment and recovery process. Rosecrance residential facilities, gardens, and experiential therapies have been thoughtfully designed to help teens and young adults benefit from the healing effects of nature, light, and art.
Waterfalls, boulders, trees, and a pond teeming with koi invite clients and families to immerse in the garden at our 50-acre Rosecrance Griffin Williamson campus, home to our residential adolescent addiction recovery and mental health programs. Located an hour northwest of Chicago, clients can access music, art, and horticulture therapy to help them discover new passions and positive tools for managing their condition over the long term.

Combined Treatment for Dual-DiagnosisTeens
Mental health and substance use disorders often co-occur, especially in teens and young adults. Families facing dual diagnoses may struggle to find treatment programs that address both simultaneously, even though these diagnoses can be so intertwined. At Rosecrance, our focus is on lifelong recovery, which is why we believe it’s vital to combine treatment for substance abuse and mental health into one individualized treatment program for teens and young adults, ages 12 to 18.
