Events mark Mental Illness Awareness Week, Oct. 7-13

The National Alliance on Mental Illness/Northern Illinois will observe Mental Illness Awareness Week, which is Oct. 7 to 13, with three events:

Rally for Mental Health: Several community members will speak at this event, which is noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at the Winnebago County Justice Center, 650 W. State St., Rockford. The rally will take place rain or shine.

“More Hospital Closures: Will This Time Be Different?” University of Chicago Law Professor Mark Heyrman of the Mental Health Summit ill make a special presentation for NAMI members, the community and the media about state hospital closures. Please invite your family members, neighbors and friends to hear this important topic discussed. The program is 6:30 p.m.Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Rock Valley College’s Woodward Technology Center, 3301 N. Mulford Road, Rockford. Refreshments will be provided.

Bowling for Recovery: Registration is at 2 p.m., bowling is from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Forest Hills Lanes, 7742 Forest Hills Road, Loves park. $15 includes bowling, shoes, pizza, pop and prizes. If you plan to attened or sponsor a bowler or team, call Nancy at 815.399.4476.
