Clients express struggles, triumphs at ‘Art of Healing’

In honor of Mental Illness Awareness Week, Rosecrance and Barnes & Noble are sponsoring the “Art of Healing” art gallery this October at the bookstore at CherryVale Mall. This is the seventh time Rosecrance has sponsored a gallery of artwork produced by mental health clients and the first time artwork by substance abuse clients has been displayed.

About 40 pieces of artwork will be on display beginning Oct. 1, the same day as the second annual Mental Health Fair in the mall.

Mental health clients are submitting small- and medium-size pieces (8 x 10 and smaller), while substance abuse clients are submitting three-to-six large pieces that were produced as a group.

An artists’ reception will be held Friday, October 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Barnes & Noble. This reception is a part of RAAC Art Scene, which also takes place Saturday, October 15, from 3 through 7 p.m. Artwork produced by mental health clients will be for sale during Art Scene. Food and specialty drinks will be available during Art Scene such as Mental Health Mocha, Stigma Stinger, Hope Float and Recovery Roast.
