Rosecrance Medical Officer presents at Clinical Aspects of Medical Psychiatry Conference

Rosecrance Medical Officer, Dr. Tom Wright, MD, will present at the 21st annual Clinical Aspects of Medical Psychiatry Conference on Thursday, October 18 at the Forest Hills Country Club in Rockford, IL, from 8:15-9:15 am.

The full-day conference is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, psychologists, teachers, and behavioral health professionals who are interested in cutting edge treatments and medications for psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Wright has more than 20 years of experience in the field and has been with Rosecrance since 2005. His presentation will address Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and new hope for Depression treatment.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a non-invasive, non-systemic treatment performed under the supervision of a psychiatrist, using a medical device called the NeuroStar TMS Therapy system.  During treatment, pulsed magnetic fields are repetitively transmitted into the left prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that is thought to regulate mood, in order to stimulate the firing of neurons, which is believed to trigger the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine.

This treatment has proven to be extremely effective. Approximately one out of three patients treated with TMS Therapy experience complete symptom relief at the end of six weeks. Additionally, Rosecrance is the most experienced provider in the region.
