Rosecrance Lakeview running club promotes wellness in recovery

As a way of promoting health and wellness, Addictions Counselor Emily Morris and Alumni Coordinator Paul Gilmet have teamed up to form the Rosecrance Lakeview Running Club. The club will consist of Rosecrance staff, clients, and alumni from IOP, as well as residents in the Rosecrance Lakeview Recovery Home.

“The Chicago running community is strong,” says Gilmet. “This is a great way for newly sober clients and alumni to take a huge step in their recovery and promote their health.”

The club will meet on Thursdays at 4pm in the Rosecrance Lakeview Community Room. After a light stretch, the group will take to the sidewalks and the lakefront for early evenings of fresh air and fun. Participants of all fitness levels are encouraged to participate, and no runner will be left behind. The club will run for eight consecutive weeks and end with a 5K or 10K Lung Run Race at the lakefront on Sunday, August 26.

“For a lot of clients, this will be the first 5K that they’ve done, so it’s a big deal,” says Morris. “It’s awesome to see them getting out of their comfort zones.”
