Rosecrance expert, Dan DeGryse, Director of the Rosecrance Florian Program, will keynote and teach a class at the international Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) on the topic of behavioral health. The conference takes place on April 23- 28 in Indianapolis, IN at the Indiana Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium.
With more than 33,000 fellow members of the fire service estimated to be in attendance, FDIC serves as the fire industry’s most advanced source of training and educational offerings. The week -long conference will offer a variety of invaluable classes, trainings and hands on workshops for fire personnel to learn, network and grow personally and professionally.
“It’s an honor to present at FDIC this year,” says DeGryse. “When it comes to physical, mental and emotional well-being I feel strongly that it’s time we move past a dialogue and start implementing real change. Through my class and keynote, my goal is to encourage attendees to demonstrate behaviors of mentorship, modeling and vulnerability.”
Degryse’s keynote titled, “Straight Talk” will highlight personal stories as well as strategies and behaviors to combat behavioral and emotional health crises within the fire service. Additionally, the classroom session showcases the body’s response to stressors with a focus on repeated and prolonged episodes of stress. Attendees will be given the tools to develop action plans, which their department can implement to address behavioral/emotional health issues and crises.
Rosecrance Director of Clergy and Alumni Services, Fr. James Swarthout, who will be involved in the opening ceremony of FDIC, adds, “We can’t forget to help those who are constantly helping others. At Rosecrance, our slogan is ‘Life’s Waiting!’ and we bring that message with us everywhere we go.”
Rosecrance will offer information on treatment services and educational resources at booth 340 in the Convention Center. For more information and to register, please visit: http://www.fdic.com/conference.html
