TMS service for severe depression, OCD now offered at Chicago-River North

TMS is available by prescription only, and the therapy is supervised by a doctor.

Americans who live with serious mental illness may struggle to find an effective treatment that frees them from the heaviness of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

But there is hope.

Rosecrance offers a number of therapies, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a noninvasive therapy that treats people with obsessive-compulsive disorder or severe depression whose condition is considered to be treatment resistant.

With over a decade of experience offering TMS therapy in Wisconsin and northern Illinois, Rosecrance has extended this service to its Chicago-River North location, 320 W. Ohio St., Suite 410E.

“TMS treatment is a commitment, but the treatment can have a profound impact on the life of someone who is struggling to manage their depression or OCD,” said Dr. Tom Wright, Rosecrance’s Chief Medical Officer.

Consultations can be requested online or by calling 888.928.5278.

TMS is available by prescription only, and the therapy is supervised by a doctor. It has been clinically tested and is proven to be safe and effective with none of the side effects associated with medication.

During treatment, a specially designed helmet is worn as magnetic pulses are delivered through a coil that is carefully fitted to the head of each patient. TMS targets specific parts of the brain that research has proven to be underactive in people who suffer from depression or OCD.

Patients are awake during treatments, which last 20 minutes. Most report little or no discomfort during their treatment session. After a session is complete, individuals can resume normal daily activities.
