Calling all artists for 'The Art of Healing' gallery

Rosecrance Health Network is sponsoring “The Art of Healing” art show at Barnes & Noble Booksellers at CherryVale Mall in Cherry Valley, IL.

Rosecrance Health Network is sponsoring “The Art of Healing” art show at Barnes & Noble Booksellers at CherryVale Mall in Cherry Valley, IL. Works of artists who are in recovery from mental illness and/or substance abuse will be featured in the show. There will be a special section in the store for children’s art. The store will feature books, CDs and DVDs on health and wellness.

The show will demonstrate how art impacts recovery in behavioral health, help reduce some of the stigma surrounding behavioral health, provide a venue for collaboration for agencies working in healthcare and give the community an opportunity to share in the process.

Artwork accepted will include all media, with the exception of craft items. There is no limit to the number of items submitted. The artwork will be juried and chosen as space permits. Consumer artists can get help with art supplies as the budget allows.

A statement about the work, a signed release and a suggested sale price is required for each item at the time of submission. Rosecrance Health Network will collect 50% from each sale to offset the cost of the gallery.

Call project coordinator Mary Gubbe Lee at 815-720-5097 or email her if you have any questions or to arrange a pick-up.

Artwork will be on display October 1-15. The gallery will be a part of the Mental Illness Awareness Week celebration. The gallery will be a part of ArtScene in Rockford on October 14-15. A premiere showing will take place on Friday, October 14, including an evening reception for artists, their friends and families.
