WHAT TO LOOK FOR

How bipolar disorder might show up

Bipolar disorder can affect your energy, activity levels, sleep, thinking, behavior, and judgment. It is a chronic condition often managed with medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes.

During an “up” or emotionally high episode, a person may experience high energy, racing thoughts, decreased sleep, and irritability. During a depressive episode, a person may experience feelings of sadness or hopelessness, loss of interest in activities, and changes in sleep and appetite.

These changes can range from mild to severe and can last for days, weeks, or even months.
