Three benefits of 12-Step programs
Spoiler: It provides structure and a built-in community!
At Rosecrance, we leverage the 12-Step method as an integral part of our evidence-based treatment and recovery program. It is foundational to our treatment services, because it provides three key benefits to our patients:
- It [12-Step Programs] is time-tested…
Introduced in the 1930s, the 12-Step method is an effective set of principles and actions still used today. The program is designed to provide essential tools you or your loved one can use throughout the rest of your life to help stay committed to recovery.
- It transcends AA meetings
Since its inception, the 12-Step method has been made synonymous with Alcoholics Anonymous, or AA meetings. 12-Step programs and groups have been formed to address a wide range of conditions, including alcoholism, substance abuse, dependency, gambling and overeating.
- It provides structure and a built-in community
Recovery doesn’t happen alone or in at a single moment in time; it’s a life-long journey that takes a village. 12-Steps helps patients navigate early transition challenges post-treatment such as boredom or isolation, and provides a strong social group and support network with those who share the same recovery goals.
