Headlines highlight power of conversations on substance use disorders

Each time headlines feature an individual’s recovery journey, the conversation reminds us that substance use disorder can touch anyone’s life.

“Substance use disorder is a complex brain disease that does not discriminate,” said Rosecrance Regional President Carlene Cardosi, M.S.W., LCSW. “The good news is that talking openly and honestly about it can give individuals the courage they need to seek life-giving hope.”

A number of factors can impact an individual’s risk for developing a substance use disorder. These include family history of addiction, age of first use, ease of access, and the potential presence of poor mental health or a mental illness.

Rosecrance experts are available to discuss the complexities of substance use disorder and how to get a loved one into treatment. In addition, the “On Your Radar” podcast features behavioral health conversations with Rosecrance staff.
